Kauai Babymoon Session | Dawn + Tommy
We don’t grow when we stay inside our comfort zone. That seems to be the common theme I’ve experienced since deciding to start my business. Time and time again, I’ve found myself starting to retreat only to tell myself no and keep pushing forward. IT WORKS YOU GUYS. You know what else? It usually pays off. This session is the perfect example. While my hubby Keith and I were planning our 10th anniversary, we knew we wanted to do something special and beyond what we normally do. Considering we had never really had professional photos taken, I had the idea to do that during our trip to Kauai. I noticed that the amazing Dawn Charles had Kauai on her bucket list and reached out. We booked and started planning all the other details.
Fast forward a month or so, and I was trying to find couples to photograph during our trip. Not long after that I found out Dawn’s hubby would be joining her for the trip. At first that mostly meant that I’d be meeting the guy that does incredible Instagram story takeovers. But then I started thinking...what if I asked to take their photos? Cue all the fear and self-conscious thoughts. I asked Keith what he thought. “Just ask” he said. “I’m scared” I said. Then we literally repeated that conversation for roughly ten minutes. I finally sucked it up and asked. Guess what? I was met with an enthusiastic YES. Then I immediately felt dumb for being so scared in the first place.
So Dawn took our photos and I took theirs. It was a surreal experience that I never would have had if I crawled into my comfort zone. So listen up. GET OUT OF YOUR OWN DAMN WAY. If you have a question, ASK IT. If you have an idea, RUN WITH IT. Do all these things unapologetically. You are worth it.
We started this beautiful session on the Maha'ulepu Heritage Trail and ended it on Shipwreck’s Beach in Poipu. Is it unreal or is it unreal?
